Adventure

Adventure is a Crucible, and it Makes us Better

People have written at length about how the human mind and body benefit from being challenged.

Adventure is good for the soul and mind. To be Challenged is to Grow, and to Grow is fulfilling.

At Studio Semi-Orco, Adventure is celebrated.

Meeting people of other  cultures, places, and lives is the best way to learn how to overcome problems in the world.

Here are some adventures and lessons they taught me.

My Travels Have Shaped Me, and they Reflect in My Art

I have a very optimistic view of the future. I think we will need to fight Great Challenges, as climate change and technology take us into the future.

But I think we are stronger. Humans, when working together, can overcome anything!

I  have seen places of the world where technology has fixed many problems, and where community and support has solved more.

We don’t have to imagine a future where we fix things. We can do it today!

Taiwan

In 2022, I worked for TSMC and spent the summer in Taiwan while I was trained. Based in Tainan, I traveled to Taipei, Kaohsiung and Taichung multiple times, among other cities. My favorite trip was to the Beautiful Taroko National Park.

Mexico

I am from Mexico; and I will never forget the splendors of my home.

Japan

I have gotten a few chances to visit Japan. I went to Fukuoka to see a Pulsed Laser Depositor in Operation in 2019, and  in 2023 I visited Tokyo and Hiroshima.

Japan is known for its dense and well-executed urban planning. As a nerd of that variety, I loved how easy it was to access everything with just my two chevrolegs.

Shanghai, China

During my time as a sales guy, I got to visit Shanghai. It’s hard to explain the scale of that city, and how accessible everything is. There is so much we could learn from the Chinese and how they build their big cities.

Stepping in China feels like stepping into the future.

Canada

I have gotten the chance to visit Vancouver in my own travels with some Childhood friends. I would gladly go back to Vancouver and hope to learn more from our Snow Brethren.

Vancouver is a midsize city that punches far above its weight. The transit system runs late and will get you home SAFE!

The 48 State Roadtrip!

I hold a very special place in my heart for my time exploring the country.

Everyone handled COVID differently.

I had tied a lot of my identity into being a “good” academic, but I struggled and ultimately left my PhD program after completing my masters.

I struggled to find engineering work so I chose adventure instead. In the summer of 2021, I got my vaccine and moved into my truck, and traveled the 48 continuous states.

I told myself I would collect Memories and Road signs. Here they are in order of state visit.
